Help save a Skyraider !!!

.... from US Homeland Security paranoia, no less!

Yes, you know me from posting about flight simulator topics, but real aviation is also close to my heart, and more in specific the history of it, old planes and old airfields. Here's a story you have to hear if you have any fuel running through your veines..... and why else would you read an AOPA blog !!??

Mr. Hendrickson, a US citizen and son of  Ret. USN Captain C.F. Hendrickson acquired one of the last flying Douglas AD-4N Skyraiders (in France, no less) and brought it home with the intention to keep the history of this aircraft alive and flying! Through increasing paranoia and bureaucracy the aircraft was confiscated by the Homeland Security Dept..... If you're a US citizen and (military) aviation lover, you can help the Hendrickson's to get their plane back and prepare it for sharing it with the public!!! Please check out his website here and support them !

  1. Digg the story to bring more attention to it:

Why was the plane seized? I checked out the website but found very few details as to what happened. I think a letter or email to my representative would be much more effective with the details of who did what when and why.
I would like to see this resolved as quickly as possible but is it a matter of customs paperwork, taxes, FAA regulations or something else? With Homeland Security (somehow that phrase always reminds me of Nazi Germany) being such a far reaching and multi faceted organization it would help if our representatives knew where to go for a resolution.

I would love to help and the fact that Homeland Security feels so far above and beyond the citizens that it needn't respond to anyone is even more of an incentive. Unfortunately there is not enough information in this article on which to base a letter or call to anyone. We in the flying community need facts in order to go to bat for Mr Henderson.

I have written my representative , John Linder - Ga,concerning this matter....The web site needs more info as to the technical reason "why" it was seized...

I received a response from my State Representative , the Honorable John Linder ( Ga ) - his office confirms the seizure was a paperwork issue that has not been resolved....( ? )

  6. Is there any update on this case? Why would Homeland Security care about an old plane?
