In fact, at a particular training facility I flew from, where clearance was tight, ground taxi was the SOP for getting out of parking spot to taxi line. Hard surfaces also advised for this as well.

A bit more power and pedal skills required than wheels I would imagine (never taxied a wheeled helicopter), and a bit rough on the skid shoes as well, but a very effective way to taxi. Running takeoffs in skid-equipped aircraft also require being able to “ground run” with skids, so overall an useful skill to have.
