Cherokee Six aids ocean research

October 31, 2009 by Alton K. Marsh, Senior Editor, AOPA Pilot

Eddie Kisfaludy of San Diego uses his Cherokee Six for oceanic research. With the help of his fiancee, freelance television reporter and pilot Natasha Stenbock, Kisfaludy is marketing an aerial video surveillance system he developed. His external camera mount doesn’t require a hole in the cabin floor. His day job is to support research at the Scripps Institution of Oceanic Research, University of California San Diego. Several of the researchers there have endorsed the system, not to mention scientists outside of Scripps. On another note, watch for Natasha’s airshow video soon on AOPA Online. You’ll see more about them in an upcoming issue of AOPA Pilot.

Both Eddie and Natasha led my formation flight from San Diego to French Valley Airport to photograph the Cessna SkyCatcher. The article appears in an upcoming issue of “AOPA Pilot.”

Just got this update from Eddie:

    Hi!

I’m very pleased to announce that our Scientific Aerial Video Project has been selected as one of three finalists for the Young Presidents Innovation Challenge at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The winning team gets a $10,000 cash prize and will be selected on November 17th after a final round of competition. It brings great pleasure to have the opportunity to thank each and every one of you who have supported this project so far.

I’ve been teamed up with two very successful CEO’s from local companies in San Diego to help prepare a winning strategy for the final round of competition on the 17th. With a little luck, this little project may take off and fly!

Thanks again for all the support!

    Eddie

  2. Eddie Kisfaludy Says:

Yes, this system could be used to support Homeland Security missions.

Hi eddie, I am ver interested of the gyro cam solution you worked out on the Six.
Is it possible to let me know if this gyrocam is for sale?
I believe the world needs a lower price on such equipment than ex wescam can offer.
Have you any example videos on youtube?
